Cookies – what they are and how they work

Cookies are something that the vast majority of websites use today. A cookie is a small text file that is stored in your browser’s internal memory and allows us to see what you click on, how you navigate the website and how the content of the website performs. Furthermore, we collect information about navigation, time of visit, which browser you use and so on. We do this so that we can best adapt the content of the website to you as a user. Most browsers (Google Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari, etc.) are set to accept cookies automatically, but you can choose to change the settings so that cookies are not accepted. Please note that this may mean that many websites will no longer function properly.

What we use cookies for

Google Analytics

The analytics tool Google Analytics is used to study traffic, usage patterns and trends on the website. The data collected is used to optimize the user experience and customize the content of the website. In accordance with Google’s guidelines for the use of Google Analytics, no personally identifiable information is collected about you as a user. The data collected is stored on Google’s servers. If you want to opt out of Google Analytics collecting data about you, you can  ask to be excluded.

Google Tag Manager

Google Tag Manager manages tracking tags and refers tracking setups and tracking to third-party solutions such as Universal Analytics (Google Analytics) and is used for website optimization and marketing services. All tracking tags are run and managed via Google Tag Manager.

What is stored: Your movements and certain actions on the website (e.g. if you press “Add to cart” in an online store). All data is anonymized and we do not store any sensitive information such as: credit card information, phone number, address or any other form of data that can identify you as a person.

Facebook Pixel

Facebook Pixel is an analytics tool that allows us to measure the effectiveness of advertising from Facebook by tracking the actions the user performs on the website with a view to optimizing Facebook Ads (building Audience and remarketing). You can use this information to:

  • Ensure that ads are shown to the right people
  • Building an advertising audience
  • Unlock additional advertising tools on Facebook

What is stored: What ads the user has seen on Facebook, What pages the user has visited and what conversions (order, contact, etc.) the user has made.

Hotjar

Maps the interaction the user has with the website. To help us understand how visitors interact with the website, Hotjar records visitors’ sessions. The Hotjar script is a websocket connection that sends the following information to Hotjar’s servers:

  • HTML changes that occur during the user’s session on the website
  • Mouse movements
  • Mouse click
  • Scrolling gestures
  • Keystrokes for whitelisted actions
  • Statistics on whether the viewing size of the browser changes

Each event tracked is stored in Hotjar’s cloud database using a timestamp that is later used to replay the events in sequential order. The Hotjar script tracks visitors as they visit different pages using a first-party cookie, allowing the entire session to be played back in a single recording. No sensitive information or user information is collected or stored.

Tracking pixels

The tracking pixels on the website are used for tracking conversions and personalized marketing. They are not container tags and do not send back personal information.
